Calculating the Volume of Cement Bags

What is cement?

Cement is a dry powder (usually gray in color) prepared by the calcination of clay and lime. Cement is a binder material. When water is added to cement, it hydrates which means it reacts to form a solid material. Mixing cement with water gives paste. Adding sand makes it mortar. Adding gravel makes it concrete.

The cement we typically use is termed as “hydraulic cement” since this powdery substance is generally mixed with water before use and when it hardens, it does not dissolve when subjected to additional water.

This article will walk you through the procedure for calculating the volume of 50 kg cement bags in a specific volume (1 cubic meter or 1 cubic feet).

How to Calculate Volume of 50 kg Cement Bag?

Depending on where you are, the weight of cement bags may differ.

In many places, the weight of cement bags may be 25 kg or 50 kg. We will do calculations here based on the 25kg and 50 kg weight but you can do the same for any other weights.

How to Calculate Volume of 25 kg & 50 kg Cement Bags?: Cement Bags of different weights

Basic information needed:

Density of cement = 1.44 gm/cm³ = 1440 kg/m³

Accordingly the volume of cement bag = mass / density = 50 kg / 1440 kg/m³ = 0.0347 m³

It is then easy to convert this volume to other units such as cubic feet (CFT) or liters.

Volume of cement bag (CFT) = Volume of cement bag (m³) * conversion unit

= 0.0347 * 35.3 = 1.225 cubic feet

Volume of cement bag (liters) = Volume of cement bag (m³) * conversion unit

= 0.0347 * 1000 = 34.7 liters

How to Calculate Volume of 25 kg Cement Bag?

Density of cement = 1440 kg/m³

Accordingly the volume of cement bag = mass / density = 25 kg / 1440 kg/m³ = 0.0174 m³

It is then easy to convert this volume to other units such as cubic feet (CFT) or liters.

Volume of cement bag (CFT) = Volume of cement bag (m³) * conversion unit

= 0.0174 * 35.3 = 0.613 cubic feet

Volume of cement bag (liters) = Volume of cement bag (m³) * conversion unit

= 0.0174 * 1000 = 17.4 liters
